          Sumangala Thero broth in Kurunegala district. 2nd March 1815 Sinhalese leaders signed the Udarata treaty in the temple of the tooth Kandy. On the day British soldier flag down our flag and raised British flag. Wariyapola Sumangala Thero, declaring that the treaty was signed, flag down the British flag raised the Sinhalese flag again. The governor Robert Bundrick so that seen he said, Thero should be shoot and kild. But the British soldiers said, he was a Buddhist monk, so it wasn’t a good idea. They didn’t do it after.

1818, rebellion against British rule broke out of the Kandy areas. Those days wariyapola Sumangala Thero took the tooth relic and Thero went to the Haguranketha to hide it. After that Thero later handed it over to the Monaravila Kappetipola Disawa. November 1818 the British captured Sumangala Thero and recaptured the tooth relic. Wariyapola Sumangala Thero charged treason and imprisoned in Jaffna. But Thero was released on 13 April 1821.
